29 March 2009 - Construction Kaiser Ltd. cast the 1st Gas Turbine and Generator (GTG) pedestal in Sapele
Construction Kaiser hereby announces the successful single continuous concrete pour of the GTG1 pedestal, which was concluded on the 29th of March, 2009. This is under the 450MW National Independent Power Plant Project (NIPP) in Sapele.
This pedestal is one of the 4 Gas Turbine / Generator pedestals comprising of 450 cubic meters of grade 40 concrete, and 52 metric tons of high yield steel reinforcement, to be cast on this project. The combined weight of the Gas Turbine & Generator to be carried by this pedestal is about 424 metric tons, (Gas Turbine - 250tons and Generator -174tons). This pedestal is carried by 800 millimeter diameter bored piles numbering over 22, driven to 30 meters depth.
Concreting from the Odisa 2530 concrete batching plant started at 11:30 on March 28th, 2009 and at 12:35pm on 29th March 2009 casting of GTG1 pedestal was completed. The concrete was placed by our Schwing concrete pump with a 32 meter boom, and five mixer trucks.
The concreting of the second pedestal is due in the coming month, subject to the inspection of General Electric (GE) - the equipment manufacturers, while the others would follow after the completion of the steel piling work currently being carried out by TREVI Foundations.
Even though this is not the biggest single pour to be carried out by CKL, it has been the most important, being that it had to be continuous, and cold joints are not allowed.
We hereby congratulate the team, who gave their all, to ensure that this task was completed.
